How Can I Extend Time on an Exam in Canvas?
If you are proctoring your exams virtually and need to extend exam time for individual students, Canvas and most other virtual proctoring platforms will allow you to make exceptions to your time limits on a student-by-student basis. Visit the links below for step-by-step instructions or get in touch with us. As always, if you have specific questions about implementing testing accommodations, you can contact us at saeotestadmin@vcu.edu to discuss.
How to Print a Canvas Quiz
- Please note we do not recommend using this option if the student needs to have a formatted exam or use reading support technology during their exam.
- Please double-check the Canvas exam before printing as some Canvas questions are not able to be formatted for a paper copy.

Helpful Canvas Tips
Please try to avoid putting Due Dates on your exam for the class
- This will have the student with extended time accommodations submit at the due date for the class. Which will negate their extended time that you have added into the system.
- If you have due dates for your class you will need to manually assign each student within the course to have a separate due date so their time is not affected by the class due date. Please see the guide on how to add separate due dates for students.
